National Work Zone Awareness Week 2020

< Back to Blog

This week marks National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) across the United States. NWZAW is an annual event aimed at raising awareness of work zone safety amongst motorists and workers.

The event is a result of partnerships between state departments of transportation (DOT), national road safety organizations, government agencies and private companies.

This year, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) was due to host the 2020 NWZAW kick-off event on April 21 with the theme, “Safe Work Zones for All: Protect workers. Protect road users.” However, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, MDOT will now host the event in 2021.

Certain activities will however continue throughout the week. One highlight of the annual fixture is Go Orange Day, when all roadway safety professionals across the country are encouraged to wear orange to show their support for work zone safety. Participants are also encouraged to take part in NWZAW this year through social media to remind the public to drive safely in and around work zones.
